Only 27% of small businesses and 34% of medium businesses are using social media to enhance their company, according to the latest social media statistics on The Social Skinny.

25% of SMB’s have no social strategy at all, while only 28% of small businesses and 24% of medium businesses measure their return of investment from social media activity.

The news is surprising considering 59% of consumers purchased a product they saw on Pinterest and 33% purchased a product they saw on their Facebook news feed or friend’s wall.

The figures also highlight the importance of using social media to interact with customers and provide good customer service. Social media users spend on average 21% more than non-social customers when they receive good customer service. However companies are currently only respond to 30% of their social media fans feedback and 44% of customer questions are being answered via Twitter.
