Winning the award is icing on the cake, because we met our main goal -- to give our clients everything they wanted in their kitchen remodeling design.

TLC Remodeling - Home Remodeling in Minneapolis and St. Paul has won the top award for outstanding achievement in Residential Kitchen Design, $90,001-$120,000, at the 16th annual Contractor of the Year (COTY) Awards, hosted by the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI).

Celebrating the best in Twin Cities residential remodeling, the COTY Awards are given to residential and commercial builders, remodelers and designers in 26 different categories. This year, there were a total of 83 entries; some categories such as the kitchen design which TLC Remodeling won, were highly competitive.

TLC Remodeling co-owner Leslie Sale said their winning design was for a kitchen that is typical of many 1920’s south Minneapolis homes. “It was dark, cramped, and completely walled off from the living spaces,” Sale said. TLC Remodeling rebuilt the rooms, added windows for more natural light, removed walls for a view into the living spaces, and added tons of storage inside the cherry cabinets and built-in buffet. They were able to do all this within the existing footprint, which kept costs down.

“Winning the award is icing on the cake, because we met our main goal – to give our clients everything they wanted in their kitchen remodeling design,” Sale said.

“The process was easy and collaborative,” said homeowners Christine and Steve Tjossem. “The finished kitchen speaks for itself. We are loving our new space.”

Hosted by the Minnesota chapter of NARI and sponsored by Shaw/Stewart Lumber Co., this year’s festivities on Nov. 16 drew more than 260 attendees. Contestants were judged by a panel of 25 remodeling professionals from the Milwaukee chapter of NARI who scored the entries based on their project descriptions and photos. Award winners demonstrate excellence in aesthetics, functionality, superior craftsmanship, use of innovative construction materials and techniques, overcoming difficult obstacles, and meeting client needs.

NARI is a not-for-profit trade association committed to promoting the interests of its members within the remodeling industry, and acting as a resource to remodel-ready homeowners. The only national association dedicated solely to the remodeling industry, NARI acts as an industry spokesgroup.

TLC Remodeling, managed and owned by Jim Sale and Leslie Sale, has been remodeling homes in the Twin Cities area since 2004. The company has also won the Award for Consumer Excellence (ACE Award) from the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.
