Because of my relationship with Dr. Mintz and his faith in me from the beginning, this award means a great deal to me. And the fact I was the first female physician to receive the honor makes it even more special.

Dr. Mickey Barber—CEO and Chief Medical Officer of Cenegenics Carolinas—is the first woman to be presented the prestigious Alan P. Mintz, MD Award for Clinical Excellence in Age Management Medicine, announced Cenegenics, the global leader in the medical specialty. Barber received the award from the Age Management Medicine Group (AMMG) at their 12th Clinical Applications conference, held at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada.
AMMG created the award in 2007 in honor of Dr. Alan P. Mintz, an inspirational pioneer and visionary in age management medicine who forged new medical frontiers while exemplifying medical excellence. The award is presented annually to a physician demonstrating Mintz’s high standards of science, patient care and personal health lifestyle. A true groundbreaker and longtime Cenegenics physician/partner, Barber was the first physician to open a Cenegenics center outside of the corporate Las Vegas facility six years ago and now oversees two centers: Charleston, South Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina.
“Because of my relationship with Dr. Mintz and his faith in me from the beginning, this award means a great deal to me. And the fact I was the first female physician to receive the honor makes it even more special. I’m also grateful that my initial small practice in age management has grown into two centers today—but I’m always looking for ways to grow Cenegenics Carolinas even more and take on new challenges,” Barber said.
Compared to 11 years ago, more people are seeking out an age management medicine program, per Barber. And that, she says, is really exciting as she heads toward her 58th birthday, being busier than she was a decade ago, working even harder with Cenegenics to continue raising the bar in medicine by adding breakthrough sciences to their Elite Health Program, such as advanced telomere measurement, stem cell therapy and micronutrient testing at the cellular level.
“Dr. Mickey Barber clearly represents Dr. Mintz’s vision for superior patient care, healthy living, quality of life and entrepreneurship. As the owner of two Cenegenics centers in the Carolinas, Dr. Barber stands heads and shoulders above others in her field and is perfectly appropriate as the first female recipient of the Alan P. Mintz, MD Award for Clinical Excellence in Age Management Medicine,” AMMG Chairman/Cofounder Greg Fillmore said.
Barber—a sports and fitness enthusiast—is a board-certified anesthesiologist who earned her medical degree from The Medical University of South Carolina and completed a residency at Tulane University and a fellowship at Harvard. A prior assistant professor of Tulane University, Barber is an advocate of preventive medicine as well as recipient of several awards for her clinical performance and teaching skills. She also serves as medical director of Cenegenics’ nonprofit Age Management Medicine Education Foundation (AMMEF) medical library, medical editor of the Cenegenics Pharmacy Newsletter and physician advisor for Cenegenics Living Online, an Internet-based application for patients.
