Turkey Donation Demonstrates Company’s Ongoing Commitment to Olive Crest; Previous Vons Activities Have Included a Job Training Program for At-Risk Youth, Volunteerism, and Financial Support through The Vons Foundation

"Vons’ steadfast commitment to Olive Crest’s youth and families over the last two decades has helped improve the lives of countless individuals, and we cannot thank them enough for their partnership,” said Lois Verleur, Co-Founder of Olive Crest.

Local at-risk children and families were ensured a nutritious and tasty Thanksgiving meal courtesy of a donation of 60 turkeys by Vons. Led by Gary Rocheleau, Vice President of Retail Marketing, the turkeys were donated out of Vons’ 17th street store in Santa Ana, and will be distributed to children and families participating in Olive Crest programs throughout Orange County. The turkeys are the most recent demonstration of Vons’ ongoing support of Olive Crest, a Santa Ana-based non-profit organization dedicated to preventing child abuse, treating and educating at-risk children, and preserving the family.

“It has been a privilege to help hundreds of Olive Crest children throughout the years,” said Rocheleau. “We are honored to help at-risk families and children through The Vons Foundation.”

The Vons operation, which includes Pavilions stores, is part of the Safeway family of companies. Its 278 stores serve millions of Southern Californians and Nevadans. Since its inception in 1906, it has been the policy of Vons to support their communities at the local, personal level.

For over 20 years, Vons has worked closely with Olive Crest to actively support its mission and give back in diverse and impactful ways. In 2009, Vons created a job training program to offer real world job experiences for youth at Olive Crest, allowing them to learn about working for an employer, earning and saving money, and customer service interaction. The Vons Foundation has provided regular financial support, most recently through a $15,000 grant earlier this year to help fund Olive Crest’s summer programs, including tutoring, art classes, development workshops, parenting classes, dance classes, and more. In addition, Rocheleau serves on Olive Crest’s Grocery Management Council, a dedicated group of retailers and vendors committed to making a difference in the lives of children who have suffered from abuse and neglect.

“We are profoundly grateful to Vons for their generous donation of turkeys, which will provide wholesome meals and special holiday memories for our children and families,” said Lois Verleur, Co-Founder of Olive Crest. “Vons’ steadfast commitment to Olive Crest’s youth and families over the last two decades has helped improve the lives of countless individuals, and we cannot thank them enough for their partnership.”
