On November 25, collection agency Rapid Recovery Solution comments on an article published by The Sydney Morning Herald which reports the harassing calls made by an Australian debt collection agency.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the Federal Court has recently released audio revealing the “vicious” calls being made by an Australian debt collection agency to debtors in an attempt to “blackmail people into repaying debts.” The article reports, “In an October 26 judgment, Justice [Nye] Perram found [that the agency had] ‘engaged in unduly harassing and coercive conduct’ against debtors by ‘heaping personal abuse upon them’ and ‘blackmailing them by threatening to reveal their positions as debtors to relatives, friends, employers or [neighbors].’” The article expresses that one particular call details the harassment a debtor suffered in which the collector threatens to tell her friend and husband about the debt, threatens the loss of her family home and can even be heard giggling after hanging up.
John Monderine, the CEO of Rapid Recovery Solution, runs a collection agency that doesn’t use abusive tactics to obtain debts. According to Monderine, “If I caught a collector at Rapid Recovery Solution doing any of these things to try and collect a debt, I would have them removed immediately.”
The article reports that in another recording released by the Federal Court, a collector from the agency called a debtor and said, “We’re the number one debt collection agency in Australia, all right? We – we're ruthless, mate.” The Sydney Morning Herald explains that Justice Nye Perram described one call as “rude, condescending and vicious.”
