Sit Means Sit Austin, a premiere dog obedience & training company in Austin, Texas, is proud to offer the PetSaver Program, a PetTech CPR and First Aid course that certifies individuals and pet professionals including dog trainers, groomers, sitters and boarders how to respond in the event of a pet emergency.

Troy Pfeifer of Sit Means Sit Austin, a certified PetTech first aid instructor, conducts the PetSaver Program for the Austin and San Antonio franchises of Sit Means Sit. The program teaches skills that can be the difference between life and death for many pets, as one out of four more pets would survive if they had been administered a first aid technique prior to receiving emergency veterinary care, according to the American Animal Hospital Association.

The PetSaver Program is an eight hour class that is designed to educate and train program participants in first aid care for pets, with a focus on the identification and evaluation of symptoms a pet may develop and the appropriate actions for proper emergency medical treatment. The specific skills taught in the program include:

  • Restraining & Muzzling
  • Primary Assessment
  • Rescue Breathing
  • Canine & Feline CPR
  • Choking Management
  • Bleeding & Shock Management
  • Snout-To-Tail Assessment for Injury & Wellness
  • Assessing the Pet’s Vitals

The course also includes a handbook for compiling your own pet first aid kit along with lectures in Insect Bites/Stings and Snakebites, Heat and Cold Injuries, Seizures, and Caring For Your Senior Pet-izen. Participants receive a certificate in pet first aid care and CPR upon successful completion of the program.
