The IRS is planning on releasing a database of RTRPs and EAs early next year, make sure you’re on the list!

In response to new requirements enacted by the IRS on tax preparers The Latino Tax Professionals Association (LTPA) is providing knowledge, belonging and professionalism to the paid preparer community. LTPA offers Premium 15 Hour CE Course Packages and IRS RTRP Exam Prep Courses in order to provide the necessary education needed to meet the new requirements.

The new regulation stats that anyone other than a current enrolled agent, certified public accountant or an attorney in good standing with your regulatory agency must now pass an IRS RTRP Exam and complete 15 hours of continuing education annually. Passing this test gives you the RTRP designation needed to become a Registered Tax Return Preparer.

This new professional designation means that paid tax preparers have the responsibility to prepare 1040 tax returns in an ethical and competent manner. The designation is also important due to that fact that it is highly recommend that taxpayers seek out only those paid tax preparers who are Registered Tax Return Preparers, Enrolled Agents, CPAs or attorneys.

No one may hold themselves out as a Registered Tax Return Preparer (RTRP) until they have passed an IRS test establishing minimal competency and have passed an IRS background check. RTRPs must adhere to ethical standards. RTRPs have limited practice rights before the IRS; this means they can represent clients before the IRS in only certain circumstances.

LTPA is also reaching out to the tax preparer community through a series of live webinars that will cover topics such as:
-Growing Your Tax Business
-How to Recruit and Hire Top Quality Preparers
-Adding Offices to Your TAx Business
-Getting Started With Quickbooks
