A recent study by Recommend.ly had revealed that more than two thirds (70.1%) of Facebook brand pages are updated less than once a month.
This is despite evidence that brands need to post frequent updates to maintain their engagement with fans. The study of 5.7 million Facebook pages revealed many businesses are struggling to drive engagement with consumers with company pages the second most likely to be inactive at 73.5% after community pages at 79.3%. Business pages have seen a large fall in fans since March with a fall from 6,407 to 3,323 in October.
The study also revealed that 85.3% of companies ignore conversations on their own pages and that their business engagement rates dropped 8.5% from March. Content that was most appealing to fans were photos, which drew much higher engagement.
