For the past ten days Bill Heid, Founder of Off The Grid Radio, has been in London working on a long-term project, a radio theatre production. During his time there, he visited St. Helena's Church in Austerfield where William Bradford was born and lived. He was not only a Pilgrim Father, he was the Governor of Plymouth Colony, and the author of the book “Of Plymouth Plantation.”
William experienced death at an early age, when his father died just after he turned one year old. At age four, his grandfather with whom he lived died, and at seven, his mother died. Through death and illness, Bradford turned to God for strength and comfort, and it was that strength of spirit and unwavering faith that eventually brought him and a group of like-minded Pilgrims to Cape Cod and the Plymouth colony.
Today's guest on Off the Grid Radio is a special treat for this Thanksgiving season. David Bradford is a 13th generational descendant of William Bradford and has made the study of Bradford, our Pilgrim ancestors as well as their history, his life's work.
While David does not claim to be a Pilgrim scholar, in fact, he has been a passionate student of the pilgrim history for some time. He goes on to talk about how William Bradford faced persecution for his beliefs and how he handled that persecution. In fact, William had fled England to live in Holland at the age of fifteen to seek his religious freedoms.
“William Bradford is a true American hero. I felt truly blessed to have the opportunity to continue my study and walk in the same places as this great man,” says Heid. “If you begin to think about everything he accomplished and the adversity that he had to overcome to get there, his life was truly amazing.”
During the show, Bill and David speak about how William Bradford and William Brewster opened a guerrilla printing operation targeting the divine right of the kings philosophy back in England. They would print copies in Holland and smuggle them back into England in beer kegs. When they were shut down by the authorities in Holland they decided to make the trip over to the “New World.”
Please join Bill as he and David discuss who the Pilgrims truly were. They offer an “Off the Grid” history lesson that we can use to teach future generations. To listen to this exclusive interview check out Off The Grid News Radio – David Bradford Interview.
