Virginia Beach, VA (PRWEB) November 27, 2012
This month, Men’s Health magazine spotlights the story of long-time STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® Series pro competitor and ESPNU announcer, Dave Jewett, in the December 2012 issue. Jewett, a 43-year-old kidney transplant survivor from Pittsford, NY, overcame tremendous odds after facing stage five kidney failure only five year ago and receiving a successful transplant from his father. With a relentless exercise regimen and passion for the sport and the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series, Jewett bounced back to become one of the nation’s top lumberjack athletes.
After dominating the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series Northeast Qualifier earlier this spring, Jewett advanced to the 2012 US Championship as a favorite to win. Jewett out-chopped and out-performed nearly 20 of the nation’s top lumberjack athletes to place third overall in the 2012 US Championship. This powerful performance earned him a spot on Team USA, representing the U.S. in the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series World Championship relay competition in Roermond, Holland last September. The US Relay Team placed second in the world after New Zealand.
The STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series, billed as the Original Extreme Sport, consists of six professional lumberjack disciplines, the hot saw, single buck, springboard chop, standing block chop, stock saw and underhand chop. Held in conjunction with the Collegiate Series, the qualifying rounds pit the top eight lumberjacks in the region against each other with the top four pro athletes from each advancing to the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Series Pro Championship. These four individuals will not only compete against other competitors from around the country for the championship crown, but will also join together to represent their regions in the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS Relay Competition.
