We wanted to try our hands at a psychological horror thriller, putting ourselves deep inside the mind of someone in the throes of madness and despair.
Cincinnati, Ohio (PRWEB) November 28, 2012
Amazon's publishing arm, 47North, today launched the first episode of its latest Kindle Serial title, Monstrous.
The serialized novel, by horror authors Sean Platt and David Wright, will be released in a series of six episodes, with a new episode delivered to the reader's Kindle every two weeks.
It tells the story of comedian Harry Black, who at the height of his career is murdered - then, in the afterlife, given an impossible choice: to work his way to heaven and risk never seeing his family again, or to see his family - but with his body twisted to match his sins.
Black chooses the latter, and becomes Monstrous.
"As Harry Black descends into darkness and madness, he becomes obsessed with avenging his murder, pushing himself further away from his humanity," said David Wright.
"The big question is: How far will he go in his quest for revenge? Will he be willing to sacrifice his soul?"
Sean Platt added: "We wanted to try our hands at a psychological horror thriller, putting ourselves deep inside the mind of someone in the throes of madness and despair.
"Comedians are said to be tortured souls, so we decided to take a comedian, and torture his soul - literally."
Platt and Wright first rose to fame in 2011 with their post-apocalyptic serialized thriller, Yesterday's Gone, making them two of the earliest authors using the serialized fiction model on the Kindle.
Their fast-paced plots are modeled around cliff-hangers at the end of each episode, leaving their readers itching to receive the next episode.
One reviewer of Yesterday's Gone spent over $100 on a Kindle, just so they could keep up with the latest episodes without having to read on their computer screen.
"These books and authors are the real reason why I wanted a Kindle," the reviewer explained.
Another reviewer, Katie_Seas, said the series was "wholly responsible for hijacking [her] life, [her] attention, and [her] time"
Monstrous is the second Kindle Serial from Platt and Wright.
Following the success of Yesterday's Gone - and other titles by the duo - Platt and Wright were approached by Amazon, who offered a publishing deal on Kindle Serials.
Their first Kindle Serial, Z 2134, skyrocketed up the Kindle charts, breaking into the top 100 bestsellers list for Kindle, and hitting the number one spot for Kindle horror.
"We're hoping Monstrous will prove be as popular with our readers as our previous work," Platt said.
Monstrous is currently priced at $1.99 on Amazon.
