We created a solution for busy families to bring back the tradition of the family dinner by eliminating the planning, shopping, and prepping of ingredients
Santa Monica, California (PRWEB) November 27, 2012
Fresh Dish (http://www.freshdish.com) and the Fresh Dish app (launching in the iTunes App Store soon) announce the launch of a new type of meal delivery service that delivers ingredients and recipes every week, enabling families to cook and serve delicious home-made meals in under 30 minutes. For as low as $8 per meal per person, consumers choose from an evolving menu of fresh, healthy, and delicious meals inspired by top chefs. The company is part of Los Angeles-based technology studio Science Inc. and is backed initially with $500,000 from Battery Ventures.
Fresh Dish brings families back to the dinner table to spend quality time together by delivering a simple solution to creating a family meal. Each week, a dinner kit containing pre-prepped ingredients, measured and individually packaged along with a simple recipe, will be sent directly to customers’ homes.
The service takes the hassle out of family meal planning and creation by eliminating searching through recipes, running back and forth to the grocery store, buying pantry items that only get used once, and the time spent prepping and measuring ingredients. There is no waste with unused ingredients going bad in the fridge, and no uncertainty about what goes into what you are eating.
To sign up for Fresh Dish, simply go to the site, choose the number of mouths you would like to feed and select the dishes you want to cook from the wide variety of weekly meal options. Each recipe displays the number of ingredients, cooking time, and complexity so you can make the best choices for your family. For the more adventurous, you can sign up for Chef’s Choice and Fresh Dish will send you the two top Chef Choices for that week.
According to the co-founder and CEO of Fresh Dish, Steve Goldstein, “We are concerned that the number of families having dinner together has declined over 60%, and by the studies that show that children who don’t have regular family dinners do worse in school and are more likely to get involved in drugs and alcohol. Therefore, we created a solution for busy families to bring back the tradition of the family dinner by eliminating the planning, shopping, and prepping of ingredients.”
Goldstein, a former Senior Vice President and General Manager for ProvideCommerce who was instrumental in driving significant revenue growth for brands including ProFlowers and Shari’s Berries, wants to make it possible to have an affordable and delicious home-cooked meal in under 30 minutes.
“An average family spends an average of over 2.5 hours planning, shopping for and preparing one home-cooked meal. Americans also spend an eye-popping $550 billion annually on groceries, and throw out approximately 40% of the food they buy,” said Michael Jones, CEO of Science Inc. “Fresh Dish is going to change how we save money and make it easier for families to spend time together over meals by eliminating all the time-consuming and money soaking chores that come with meal planning. As a bonus, it makes cooking healthier food more realistic all while exposing people to new exciting recipes. At the end of the day, it’s about freeing up busy people so that they can sit around the kitchen table and enjoy a great home-cooked meal with their family.”
Fresh Dish is now available in most parts of the western region (most areas in California, Nevada, and Arizona) and will be available nationwide in early 2013 with an abundance of unique, chef-inspired meals to choose from. Fresh Dish sources all of their produce, seasonings, spices, and proteins from the freshest and most respected sources.
