Acclaro, a New York-based translation and localization company, was selected by The Andy Warhol Museum to translate into Chinese and Japanese The Warhol’s education section of the museum’s site and The Warhol DIY Pop iPhone mobile app. The launch of the Chinese site and mobile app coincides with the Hong Kong opening of the exhibition Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal on December 15, 2012. The exhibition in Tokyo, Japan, opens in February, 2014.

Translating the nuances of iconic silkscreened images of Marilyn Monroe, Mao Tse-tung or The Last Supper required top-tier translators, continual quality assurance and subtle copy adaptation. In addition, Acclaro worked closely with The Warhol to create translation glossaries and style guides in order to compile all art and brand-specific terms so that they were applied consistently across all translation projects, in each language.

“Acclaro is exceptionally proud to work with The Andy Warhol Museum to translate The Warhol educational website and mobile app for new, Asian audiences. Andy Warhol himself may transcend translation, yet, we were able to bring his words and thoughts on art and life to students, scholars, and pop art lovers in Asia,” said Acclaro Founder and President Michael Kriz.

The exhibition, curated by the Warhol and sponsored by BNY Mellon, is the largest retrospective of Warhol’s artwork to travel to Asia, with over 300 paintings, photographs, screen prints, drawings and sculptures. The Warhol partnered with Acclaro due to the translation agency’s expertise in localization, content adaption to Asian markets, and track record with high-profile museums and global luxury and retail brands.

“The Warhol is pleased to partner with Acclaro in our ongoing efforts to bring rich educational content about Andy Warhol’s life and work to our audiences. Warhol has a global following and this translated content will ensure that his ideas and art continue to inspire around the world,” commented Abigail Franzen-Sheehan, director of publications of The Warhol.
