The Leo A. Deegan American Inn of Court is a local chapter of the American Inns of Courts; it was formally organized in 1985. The purpose of the American Inns of Court is to improve the ethics, professionalism and skills of members of the bench and the bar. All of the American Inns of Courts in the United States are dedicated to promoting and fostering excellence in the areas of civility, legal capability, ethics, and professionalism.

American Inns of Court are active throughout the United States with chapters existing all over the country; they involve more than 20,000 state, federal, and administrative law judges, as well as attorneys, legal scholars, and third-year law students. Members are limited to judges, experienced lawyers, law professors, barristers (lawyers with minimum experience), associates (lawyers who don’t meet the requirement for barristers, and third-year law students.

American Inns of Court (AIC) as a whole are designed to improve the skills, professionalism and ethics of both judges and attorneys nationwide. An American Inn of Court is comprised of judges, lawyers, law professors, and law students. Each Inn conducts meetings once a month to hold programs and discussions on matters pertaining to legal ethics and professionalism. On a monthly basis, an American Inn of Court meeting is held typically consisting of a program that is presented by one of the Inn’s pupilage teams.

Attorney Grech was honored to be a presenter on the topic of Jury Selection at a recent American Inns of Court program. Paul Grech, Jr. is one of Riverside’s most distinguished criminal defense attorneys with over 29 years of experience working in criminal law. Among California’s 125,000 criminal lawyers, he is one of only several hundred who is a Bar Certified Criminal Law Specialist.

Prior to becoming a criminal defense attorney, he served as a Deputy District Attorney where he spent over 6 years negotiating plea bargains and prosecuting bench and jury trials on a vast number of diverse misdemeanor and felony cases. This experience working as a prosecutor gives him invaluable insight into how the opposition thinks and acts, which he always uses to his clients’ advantage. He has been designated the “Trial Master” by the Leo A. Deegan American Inn of Court and he formerly served as the organization’s president.
