Omega-3 and fiber are at the heart of Omega3 Innovations' corporate wellness products.

Especially with the increased cost on health care that businesses will have to sustain in the future, providing medical foods in the workplace is an effective way to keep employees healthy and productive.

Omega3 Innovations, a Venice-based biotech company, launches a nutritional wellness program consisting of fish oil and fiber-rich meals. Co-founders Dr. Bo Martinsen and Dr. Anne-Marie Chalmers believe this new corporate health approach can reduce employee absenteeism and improve productivity.

“Good nutrition is essential for employees to focus properly and retain their good health,” said Dr. Martinsen, who worked as an occupational physician and medical director for several large Norwegian companies for more than 20 years. “Unfortunately, many corporations don’t know how to introduce good nutrition to the workplace or are afraid that the employees will reject health foods under an employee health program.”

To present companies with a healthy and tasteful alternative to breakfast donuts and vending machine snacks, Omega3 Innovations provides two products tailored to employee health in the workplace: the Omega Passion and the Omega Heaven, a dark-chocolate covered cookie enriched with omega-3 fish oil.

Dr. Martinsen notes that both Omega Passion and Omega Heaven contain one teaspoon of omega-3 fish oil (the equivalent of three to four regular fish oil capsules), as well as five grams of oat soluble fiber. In addition, the chocolate coating of both products consists of non-alkalized dark chocolate, which is rich in anti-oxidants.

While both the Omega Passion and Omega Heaven resemble treats in appearance and taste, they function as meals in size and nutritional value, says Dr. Martinsen.

Omega-3 fish oil and fiber can have profound health benefits if consumed in the right dose,” says Dr. Chalmers, adding that hundreds of studies cite omega-3 as improving mental focus, reducing stress and aggression levels, increasing satiety, and reducing joint pains.

Dr. Chalmers says that providing good nutrition in the workplace is especially important for a corporation’s financial well-being. According to the American Institute for Preventive Medicine, companies typically spend 50 percent of their corporate profits to cover employee health care costs.

Omega3 Innovations is currently negotiating introducing the Omega Passion and Omega Heaven to several companies’ corporate wellness programs.

"It's hard to find snacks that taste good and are good for you," says David Brim, CEO of Brand Advance, an Orlando Marketing Agency. “Often times I see employees turn to junk food during the work day, but after our team tried the products provided by Omega 3 Innovations, I'm pleased to now offer the products as a healthier alternative in our office."

Omega Passion and Omega Heaven are both diabetic-friendly and gluten free, making the products accessible for a large range of employees, says Dr. Martinsen.

“Especially with the increased cost of health care businesses will have to sustain in the future, providing medical foods in the workplace is an effective way to keep employees healthy and productive,” says Dr. Martinsen.
