Track My Progress (http://www.trackmyprogress.com), an online assessment for students in kindergarten through grade 3, will begin nationwide field-testing in December. Started by True Progress, a New Hampshire-based education company, Track My Progress uses innovative test questions that probe for in-depth understanding of math concepts and a close reading of informational and literary texts. The testing program, which will offer Common Core assessments four times a year, is positioned to help elementary students and teachers navigate the transition to Common Core.
Many U.S. schools are in the midst of implementing the new Common Core State Standards. Most states are planning to transition to one of two federally funded Common Core assessments for the 2014-2015 school year to replace existing state tests for No Child Left Behind accountability. Schools are looking for insight into student performance on Common Core Standards in preparing for the new assessments that will be taken online by many students.
With Track My Progress, immediate results are available to teachers to help identify students who are at risk for failure. Teachers also can see reports on student progress over the course of the year and identify specific domains of the Common Core that need targeted instruction.
“We created Track My Progress from the ground up to measure student progress against the Common Core State Standards,” says David Stevens, the Harvard University-trained cognitive psychologist that designed Track My Progress. “This means that teachers can measure exactly what they are teaching and get feedback on student progress.”
