Karina Yanku Teams Up with Acclaimed Brazilian Recording Artist and Latin Grammy Award Nominee João MacDowell to Create OANARHYTHMS©™, Music for OANAMASSAGE®.

OANARHYTHMS©™ … Hear what you feel.

It was very important for me to find an experienced and talented musician with a deep understanding of the relationship between music and massage. And the results were fantastic!

The transcendental musical score of OANARHYTHMS©™, Music for OANAMASSAGE® is the result of a year-long collaboration between Karina Yanku and New York-based Brazilian composer and Latin Grammy nominated world music artist João MacDowell. Yanku, a vocalist/percussionist and massage therapist who developed OANAMASSAGE® choreographed rhythmic massage, initially came up with the idea to create a musical score that corresponds with every single massage stroke in this very specific routine. The slow, gentle, and constant tempo of 60 beats per minute mimics the pulse of the Earth’s core (Schumann’s Resonance), slowing your brainwaves from a Beta (awake) state to an Alpha (relaxed, hypnotic) state. Composed in the key of C, the chord changes in OANARHYTHMS©™ correspond directly with the 7 main Chakras, and in combination with the OANAMASSAGE® routine, creates a hypnotic, sensory journey of touch, rhythm and sound.

Research proves that listening to music at 60 beats per minute assists with right/left brain synchronization. Athletes, students, and people suffering from difficulties in coordination (brain injury, stroke) may feel benefits from just listening to the OANARHYTHMS©™ CD alone. It’s also great for meditation and yoga.

“Working with João was a lot of fun”, says Yanku. “It was very important for me to find an experienced and talented musician with a deep understanding of the relationship between music and massage. And the results were fantastic!I I was amazed that I had found him so quickly. He’s also a huge fan of alternative healing and bodywork (i.e., yoga, the chakra system, meditation and massage), which helped a lot. Neither one of us had attempted anything like this in the past, so the process was very experimental and organic. Since the OANARHYTHMS©™ score had to be composed according to every stroke in the OANAMASSAGE® routine, the chords had to progress in a more unique sequence than in a typical song with a verse, bridge and a chorus. João and I worked really hard on the music, and we’re extremely proud of what we created. Personally, I can’t wait to create Volume 2!”

“OANA” is a Romanian word meaning “Hand of God”, or “God is Gracious”, and Yanku credits her father and grandparents for nurturing her love of music. Whether you call it “God”, “Spirit” or the “Universe”, she believes creativity is a manifestation of Divine Inspiration. On her website, http://www.karinayanku.com, she states: “Three of the most profound healing elements on Earth are sound, rhythm and touch. They are the most primal forces we humans resonate with, regardless of race, gender, age and culture. A warm, reassuring touch or the sound of beautiful music can literally restore and lift your spirit, grounding you and letting you know that you are safe and loved.”
