The session, led by long-time information marketing professional and InfoDesk Vice President of Marketing Sean Smith, is designed to teach information professionals how to market themselves effectively, both inside and outside of their organizations.
“Many librarians and information professionals are now finding themselves in the uncomfortable position having to compete for the attention of their audience,” said Smith, adding that his presentation will focus on the tools information professionals can use to win that competition.
According to Smith, corporate and other special librarians face a threefold marketing challenge. The first is how to compete effectively for readership and mindshare. The second is how to sustain and drive usage of information resources. The third is how to demonstrate their own value and show ROI.
“This session,” Smith said, “will examine all three challenges and the best ways to meet them.”
Further, he said, “Many information professionals are unsure about how to market themselves effectively—either inside or outside of their organizations.”
This is the first session in a full day of non-stop professional development webinars. Registration is free for SLA members! Attendees are welcome drop-in and out of sessions throughout the day.
Other Winter Virtual Conference topics will include: OpenBEL, Data Management and Laboratory Notebooks, Framework Fight Club, Converse with People to Gain Real-Time Intelligence, LinkedIn: A thirty-minute makeover, Perspectives on Information Professionals: 2012 going into 2013. Other guest speakers include William Hayes, SVP, Selventa, Sean Campbell, Co-owner, Cascade Insights and Deb Hunt, President-Elect, SLA.
