Off The Grid News examines a recent spike in gun sales. The past couple months have created a nearly perfect storm from gun store owners and people are looking to see how they can "stick to their guns."

“And so what I’m trying to do is to get a broader conversation about how do we reduce the violence generally. Part of it is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced.” - President Obama

With the reelection of President Barack Obama, many Americans are spending their hard earned dollars on firearms and as a result gun sales are on the rise across the nation. While there are differing theories as to why guns sales are still rising, one of the most prominent theories as to why Americans are buying firearms now more than ever is for self-defense.

On October 16, 2012 during a Presidential Debate President Obama stated, “And so what I’m trying to do is to get a broader conversation about how do we reduce the violence generally. Part of it is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced.”
Hours after the President’s reelection was announced, the United Nations gathered to approve to revisit talks about the “Arms Trade Treaty.” Major arms traffickers including the United States, China, and Germany voted in favor of the talks. The only major arms trafficker to abstain from the vote was Russia. It is thought that if passed, the treaty would limit firearms sales both domestic and abroad.

There is a rising fear of what path owning a firearm will go down, particularly in Illinois right now. Coupled with the words from Obama in the debate and the United Nations pushing for an effective “Arms Trade Treaty,” a new gun law was passed in Cook County that implements a $25 per-gun tax on firearm purchases effective April 1, 2013 (Chicago Tribune).

Even more recently, it was reported on http://www.InfoWars.com that this “Black Friday,” gun sales reached an all-time high. Paul Joseph Watson, a reporter for InfoWars.com went on to say that since there was a record number of people buying firearms on “Black Friday,” the FBI had such an overwhelming amount of incoming background checks, it caused the outages on two separate occasions. The FBI reported that in total they had 154,873 background check requests.

The Chronicle-Telegram in Elyria, OH reported that, “Gun store owners locally and nationally say sales have been up since the re-election of President Barack Obama, partially due to fears he’ll push for stricter gun laws.”

With concerns for guns and gun laws increasing, Off The Grid News has noticed a huge spike in the number of people downloading their free informational report,[ “Stick To Your Guns - How To Legally Carry Firearms (Almost) Anywhere, Anytime.”
The report is meant to help gun owners protect their Second Amendment rights, protect themselves, and their families in case of emergency. It gives a brief overview on gun laws and how they came to be, also, what role 1920s gangsters like Al Capone had in the creation of these gun laws.
