Dr. Aaron VanHise, a cardiologist at Raritan Bay Medical Center, provided medical insight on the misconceptions of heart disease. He explained that heart disease is often developed during teen years, with some patients being diagnosed as young as 15 years old. He discussed the importance of recognizing high cholesterol and being aware of previous family history of heart disease or high cholesterol. Dr. VanHise advises to stay active and modify your diet to help prevent heart disease.
The author of the best-selling “Ten Dollar Dinners”, Food Network’s Melissa D’Arabian joined host Abe Kasbo to discuss tips on healthy cooking for less and how to get children to eat their vegetables and make healthy choices when eating. She explained her proactive approach to keeping her children engaged in meal planning and therefore more engaged in what and how they eat.
Dr. Grigory Goldberg, an orthopedic surgeon at Raritan Bay Medical Center, discussed the common back and spine issues he frequently sees among his patients. He cited back pain due to prolonged periods of sitting, an issue facing many Americans today. To combat back pain, he recommends using pillow support, taking frequent breaks to prevent muscle strain and exercising regularly to strengthen your muscles. Dr. Goldberg also described some of the back and spine injuries he sees in children and teens that result from heavy backpacks and sports. He also spoke about ways to prevent back injuries while shoveling this winter.
