The truth is that we don’t know how to fix the US labor market – we are in uncharted territory.
Hawthorne, CA (PRWEB) November 30, 2012
Unemployment has been above seven percent for the last 47 months, the longest period of sustained high unemployment since the Great Depression from data reported in November by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. For some time now government officials have been struggling to reduce unemployment but a solution has been difficult to pinpoint.
"The truth is that we don’t know how to fix the US labor market – we are in uncharted territory," says Peter Orszag, Mr. Obama’s former budget director.
One might ask who can solve this colossal problem? "Young people have the answer," says Austin Mazzolini, a high school student at California Academy of Math and Science.
These youth say they have a "perfect solution" to high unemployment and they created an organization called SaveOurWorkforce to implement it.
"Brainstorming is all about coming up with lots of ideas which kids are great at because we do not have life experiences to bias our thinking," explains student Hy Nguyen.
In fact a group of these young people did spend many hours researching and brainstorming on unemployment and they came up with an answer. They determined U.S. companies are outsourcing middle class jobs at alarming rates because businesses have no reason to keep jobs in America as outsourcing is completely invisible to the consumer. These kids may have identified a root cause of the problem as over 2.2 million U.S. jobs were outsourced in 2011 according to a report by Sourcing Line Computer Economics 7-20-2012. To help solve the outsourcing problem, these young people created a website SaveOurWorkforce.org to allow consumers to easily lookup how many U.S. jobs a company provides.
The organization's goal is to gives large companies incentive to keep jobs in America by providing a free online tool for consumers to easily monitor, encourage, and reward businesses that provide jobs to Americans.
"Our slogan is 'Before-You-Buy, Verify' that empower consumers to direct their purchases to companies that support the U.S. workforce the most," says Ross Mazzolini, a sophomore at Texas Tech University.
SaveOurWorkforce is a nonprofit organization with the mission to save and rebuild the American workforce. Founded in 2012 by high school and college students, the organization encourages the involvement of students, individuals, and companies throughout the country at their website http://SaveOurWorkforce.org. Students (13 years and older) are asked to join and track the company workforce sizes in their area. Individuals (the 99%) are asked to join and use the free tool “Before-You-Buy, Verify” which empowers consumers to direct their purchases to companies that support the U.S. Workforce the most. Companies are also asked to join and partner with the youth to help keep jobs in America at http://SaveOurWorkforce.org.
