We could have saved more than a year and $36,000 by making our product in China, but earning the Made in America label is a point of pride for us. Choosing a domestic manufacturing partner also makes good business sense.
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) November 20, 2012
FiAir LLC has launched a crowd funding campaign to help the company to manufacture its new grill, hearth and camping tool in America. The product — called FiAir — is a portable, hand-held, battery-powered blower that produces a controlled and continuous flow of air to rapidly kindle and stoke lit coals and logs. The company is turning to the crowd funding social media site Indiegogo.com to raise the additional $36,000 in tooling costs required to make FiAir with U.S. grade steel and engineering. Contributors will receive early and discounted access to FiAir, along with a various perks linked to giving levels. These include festive holiday cards so contributors may alert recipients that a gift is on the way. FiAir is expected to ship in Spring 2013.
Made in America for Keepers of the Flame Worldwide
FiAir LLC Founder Alan i Harris says that the desire to manufacture FiAir in America is both patriotic and practical. “We could have saved more than a year and $36,000 by making our product in China, but earning the Made in America label is a point of pride for us. Choosing a domestic manufacturing partner also makes good business sense. For one thing, our American manufacturer actually beat the unit cost quoted from China. Making FiAir here also saves energy and turnaround time, allows us to handle issues with nothing lost in translation and ensures our customers worldwide of a high quality product. ”
Dana Molded Products (DMP) will manufacture and handle order fulfillment for FiAir. DMP estimates that the FiAir project will create or sustain 21 jobs at DMP's plant in Carpentersville, Illinois.
Gaining absolute power over wood and charcoal fires
FiAir’s target market includes wood stove owners and campers as well as more than 65 million consumers in the combined fireplace and grill segments of North America alone. In the latter group, FiAir may be of particular interest to those who prefer the taste of charcoal and the snap and crackle of real wood fires, but choose gas grills or gas ignition fireplaces primarily to save time. That compromise may no longer be necessary as FiAir brings coals to cooking temperature in 8 to 12 minutes, roughly half the time of traditional methods. At the hearth, wood stove or campsite, FiAir brings wood fires from first light to full blaze in about two minutes.
At just 8.75 inches inches in length and weighing less than 4 oz., FiAir will be the only battery-powered blower on the grill and fireplace accessories market that is truly portable and equally appropriate for indoor and outdoor use. FiAir also contrasts with competitive blowers in its use of a battery-powered motor to create continuous airflow as opposed to products that require users to blow into a tube, crank by hand or plug into an electric power source.
A Made in America Holiday
FiAir’s crowd funding campaign begins Tuesday, November 20, 2012 and ends on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11:59 PM PT. The company selected that particular time frame so that holiday shoppers who want to “buy American” can amplify that commitment by also bringing a new job-creating product to market.
