"Smart, well-delivered and timely advice to help advocates and spokespeople tell the most effective stories."

Kirkus Reviews, the respected source for what’s new and notable in the publishing world, announced today it has included “Living Proof: Telling Your Story to Make a Difference” (2012, Granville Circle Press) among its “Best of 2012.” The publishing magazine has called "Living Proof" a “Book of Remarkable Merit” that offers readers “smart, well-delivered and timely advice to help advocates and spokespeople tell the most effective stories.”

“We're delighted to be recognized by Kirkus Reviews,” says John Capecci, the Minneapolis communication consultant who co-authored the book with colleague Timothy Cage of New York City. “It's a special honor because we took on the publication and marketing of the book ourselves. Kirkus includes only a small number of self-published works on the list.” Capecci and Cage established their own imprint, Granville Circle Press, to publish "Living Proof" in March of this year.

In November, the authors learned the book was also one of three finalists in the "Social Change" category of the 2012 USA Best Book Awards, sponsored by USA Book News. Other finalists in that category included works by established publishing houses Origin Press and Wiley & Sons.

“Living Proof: Telling Your Story to Make a Difference” is the first comprehensive guide to telling your personal story as an effective advocate for a cause or organization. Says Cage: "John and I met more than twenty years ago as graduate students in a course about the importance of telling stories. 'Living Proof' is based in the work we've been doing since then as communication trainers." Capecci and Cage have worked with a wide range of presenters and media spokespersons, from “everyday advocates” working on grassroots efforts to celebrities representing causes and organizations.

Since publication, "Living Proof" has been incorporated into organizations’ training programs from Washington D.C. to San Francisco, and adopted as a textbook at a number of schools, including Rutgers University, Saint Cloud State University and Century College.
