On December 1, 2012, debt collection agency, Rapid Recovery Solution, offered comments following an article by Urban Daily regarding Georgia’s Department of Revenue trying to garnish hip-hip star Nas’ tour money to settle his tax debts.
According to the Urban Daily article, Georgia’s Department of Revenue, “filed legal documents to have Nas’ tour money garnished to settle his tax debt.” The article states that the department is trying to collect $1,083,435, in which Nas owes in tax related debts.
The article mentions that Nas has accumulated such a high amount of debt due to his failure to pay taxes in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010. According to the article, “The Department of Revenue has demanded Live Nation, the company sponsoring the tour, begin holding his checks until his debt is wiped out. Once Nas pays off his state taxes, he still has to deal with federal taxes he’s delinquent on.”
John Monderine, CEO of debt collection agency, Rapid Recovery Solution, expresses his disagreement at the way the Georgia Department of Revenue is going out collecting Nas’ debts. “The State of Georgia needs to find an amicable way to collect this debt. Just taking all his money is ridiculous. What incentive will Nas have to continue performing at a high level for his fans? What if he decides to stop all together. There should be a maximum of 20% of his net wages going towards his debt,” said Monderine.
