Law Center Helps One Couple Realize Their Dream of Becoming Adoptive Parents

Adoption Network Law Center, a California law corporation providing adoption services to birth mothers and adoptive parents nationwide, has selected one deserving couple for free adoption services in honor of National Adoption Month.

Married for more than 19 years, the couple, David and Melissa from Tennessee, have been pursuing adoption since 2008. In that time, they have been chosen as adoptive parents, but each time the mother has made a last-minute decision to parent the newborn herself.

Now Adoption Network Law Center (ANLC) will provide David and Melissa with pro bono adoption services as a way of giving back to the adoption community during National Adoption Month. David and Melissa were one of many couples who responded to the ANLC call for entries for this gift.

"We are excited and feel blessed to be chosen by ANLC to receive their adoption services free of charge. There are so many couples that would be great parents but many of them are not able to due to the costs of adoption," said Melissa. "We are very excited about the opportunity to work with ANLC to complete our adoption."

The cost of adopting a child averages between $10,000 to $15,000, but can reach $40,000 or more, according to The Child Welfare Information Gateway.

"It's always been our guiding mantra to gain public trust, prove credibility, display authenticity, and at all times show traits of common human decency," said Kristin Yellin, chief legal counsel, ANLC. "We are thrilled to have this opportunity to give back to the community and raise awareness of National Adoption Month."

November has been celebrated as National Adoption Month since 1995 to build awareness of adoption in the US. Funded by the Children's Bureau, each year thousands of community organizations arrange and host programs, events, and activities to share positive adoption stories, challenge the myths, and draw positive attention to the more than 20,000 children adopted in this country each year, according to Adoptive Families Magazine.
