I respect the high degree of success that the McGruff The Crime Dog campaign has received by targeting children and providing information regarding crime prevention. I would like to take the strategy further and implement it in the three office locations.

The president of Cowboy Bail Bonds, Mr. Buckley Chappell, met with Ms. Ann M. Harkins, the president and CEO of the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), in order to discuss strategies to help prevent future crimes by Texas youth. Mr. Chappell hopes to share in some of the success of the National Crime Prevention Council, most noted for its famous McGruff The Crime Dog and "Take a Bite Out of Crime" campaigns.

The "Take a Bite Out of Crime" magazine is one of the most successful public service advertising campaigns that has been launched throughout history. According to the National Crime Prevention Council, more than 4,000 law enforcement agencies utilize a McGruff suit for advertising purposes. Additionally, 75 percent of children recognize the iconic character. The National Crime Prevention Council also notes studies in 1999 and 2000 that showed that people who were acquainted with McGruff The Crime Dog were significantly more likely to take actions that would reduce the risk of crime.

"I respect the high degree of success that the McGruff The Crime Dog campaign has received by targeting children and providing information regarding crime prevention. I would like to take the strategy further and implement it in the three Cowboy Bail Bond locations in Dallas, Garland and Irving, TX", said Mr. Buckley Chappell, President of Cowboy Bail Bonds.

Mr. Chappell presented to Ms. Harkins his vision and belief that will create the real opportunity to reach children. He proposed providing kiosks with various handouts and materials that will teach children about crime, drug and violence prevention behaviors. These kiosks would be available in each Cowboy Bail Bonds location and would be available for children to use who would accompany their parents to the office.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 1,144,178 arrests occurred throughout the state in 2010. A substantial proportion of these arrests occurred in Dallas and the surrounding area. The high number of people getting arrested is also linked with an increasingly high number of visits to bail bonds agents, when family members or friends attempt to bail out someone out of jail. Mr. Chappell believes that these visits can create the perfect opportunity to inform youngsters about the dangers of a life of crime.

Mr. Chappell wants to implement his own public service campaign because he is committed to instilling positive influences in a young child's life, especially children who live in unstable family environments. McGruff The Crime Dog has been such a positive influence for over 25 years and is featured in comic books, videos and coloring books. Mr. Chappell wants to include materials from the "Take a Bite Out of Crime" campaign at each of the three locations of Cowboy Bail Bonds. He also wants to provide the materials for other bail bonds agents to use at their own agencies.

Mr. Chappell will soon be promoting the addition of the National Crime Prevention Council and McGruff The Crime Dog material to other bail bond agencies in the area.
