Taos, NM (PRWEB) December 02, 2012
The Vista Taos Renewal Center announces the appointment of Christina O’Connor as Clinical Director of its residential substance abuse treatment program. As the Clinical Director, Christina will oversee all clinical operations of this 18-bed residential facility and also at the 12-bed Casa Feliz Extended Care facility that serves as a step-down recovery unit, both of which are located in Taos, New Mexico.
Christina obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Gwynedd-Mercy College in Gwynedd, Pennsylvania, and then went on to achieve her Master of Social Work at Temple University in Philadelphia. Subsequently she became licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and also achieved certification internationally as an alcohol and drug counselor and as a co-occurring disorder professional. She also holds certification as an International Certified Co-Occurring Disorders Professional Diplomate. Christina’s experience in treating co-occurring disorders is significant in the field of alcohol and substance abuse, since many people who suffer from abuse or dependency issues also struggle with mental health issues and behavioral disorders.
Before coming to New Mexico, Christina provided services to those suffering from childhood trauma as well as both adults and children diagnosed with co-occurring disorders. In addition to supervising services for those clients and their families, she directed all phases of a trauma-informed approach addressing co-occurring disorders specific to women and their children.
Christina also brings to Vista Taos her vast experience in the interpretation of state compliance regulations, including state, federal, and CARF guidelines. Her service on the Delaware Insurance Panel for Physicians Care brings a concomitant understanding of the complex issues related to quality assurance and utilization review. Her managerial expertise extends beyond the delivery of services for co-occurring and substance abuse disorders to include program direction, clinical supervision, and team leadership.
In addition to providing both individual and group psychotherapy, Chris has maintained a private practice as a psychotherapist. She teaches the 12-step recovery program and embraces the holistic approach to treatment offered at Vista Taos. She has also facilitated multiple workshops and seminars on the coordination, treatment planning, and delivery of therapeutic services.
Vista Taos has been in operation since 1994, providing patients and their families with quality residential addictions treatment to begin the journey of recovery. For more information contact Vista Taos Renewal Center at 1.800.245.8267 or visit http://www.vistataos.com..
