Renowned physician and medical researcher Dr. Joseph Purita has traveled to locations across the globe over the past several months to share the breakthroughs he and his team have made in using adult stem cells to address a variety of health concerns.
The doctor, who currently leads the Institute of Regenerative and Molecular Orthopaedics in Boca Raton, Florida, has been sharing his work in taking adult stem cells from bone marrow and fat tissue to help affected areas of the body heal. His travels of late included stops in Brazil, Peru, China, Russia and Australia. In the space of less than two weeks he gave lectures in three different continents.
“Fat tissue and bone marrow are cornucopia of adult stem cells, which themselves have tremendous regenerative powers. The cells help the body heal just like that of a child,” said Dr. Purita. “It has been an honor and a duty to share these innovations with doctors around the world. These treatments have been very well received by medical professionals, many of whom believe that this is the future of medicine and Orthopedics in particular. Stem cells will aid in the treatment of people with a wide range of muscle, joint and ligament issues.”
Dr. Purita, who was recently recognized as a top doctor by US News and World Report, has spent years pioneering technologies relate to stem cells and platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) as both a complement and alternative to surgery. His discoveries have led to new ways of approaching muscle injuries, ligament injuries tendinitis and arthritic ailments, including for professional athletes across the country.
Because his discoveries help with physical injuries, Dr. Purita has worked with a number of professional sports organizations, including the NFL, MLB, and the NBA. He played a major role in 2010 in the rehabilitation for professional baseball pitcher Bartolo Colon, who had suffered a career-threatening shoulder and elbow injury.
“One of the top benefits of these new treatments is the fact that they do not involve the use of any performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) in pro athletes,” said Dr. Purita. “This makes it a particularly interesting development for professional athletes to rehab their injuries without the risk of suspension or having to go through surgery and its aftermath.”
In addition, Dr. Purita serves on the board of directors of Nutritional Products International (http://www.nutricompany.com), a company that specializes in the health & wellness, beauty and sports nutrition industries. NPI provides innovative distribution services to brands worldwide.
Besides his work with adult stem cells and PRP, Dr. Purita is an instructor and proctor of surgeons in the use of lasers in arthroscopic and orthopedic surgery at hospitals across south Florida. He is a graduate of Georgetown University Medical School and has also practiced with the Boca Raton Orthopaedic Group since 1981.
