The Breast Care Center Team at Summit Medical Group was honored by the American Cancer Society, Metro NJ Region, at its Diamond Ball on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at Liberty Science Center, Jersey City. Summit Medical Group Breast Care Center Medical Director, John D. Cunningham, M.D., breast surgeons Diana M. Addis, M.D., Jerrold S. Lozner, M.D., MHA, FACS; Winnie Polen, D.O., and certified breast nurse patient navigator Carol Boyer, RN, MSN, APN-C, CBPN-IC, AOCNS, were chosen as the 2012 Medical Honorees for their expert and compassionate care of patients diagnosed with breast cancer.

John D. Cunningham, M.D., is Medical Director of the Summit Medical Group Breast Care Center. In addition to his position at Summit Medical Group, Dr. Cunningham is Attending Surgeon for Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey. He is Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.

Dr. Cunningham is a recipient of more than 20 honors and awards, including the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Outstanding Cancer Liaison Award and Overlook Medical Center Clinical Excellence Physician Award. He is featured in Castle Connolly "Top Doctors: New York Metro Area" and "America's Top Doctors," as well as the Consumer's Research Council of America "America's Top Surgeons," New Jersey Life "Top Doctors for Women," and the 2011 and 2012 New Jersey Monthly "Top Doctors" listings.

In addition to her position at Summit Medical Group, Diana M. Addis, M.D., is Surgical Director of the Breast Center at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, N.J. Dr. Addis is a diplomate of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. She is a recipient of the American Academic Surgical Research Association Award and the General Surgery Teaching Award. Dr. Addis is featured in the 2011 and 2012 New Jersey Monthly "Top Doctors" listing.

Jerrold S. Lozner, M.D., MHA, FACS, is Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He is Chairman of the Summit Medical Group Clinical Practice Committee, Atlantic Health Physician Quality Committee, and Overlook Medical Center Advisory Board. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Breast Surgeons.

Dr. Lozner is a recipient of the Upjohn Achievement Award for Excellence in Medicine. New York magazine lists him in "Top Doctors in the New York Metropolitan Area," New Jersey Life lists him in "Top Docs for Women," and Castle Connolly lists him in "Top Doctors in the New York Metro Area" and "America's Top Doctors." Most recently, Dr. Lozner has been listed in Inside Jersey magazine's "190 Top Doctors for Women's Health" for his expertise in breast cancer surgery.

Winnie Polen, D.O., focuses her research interests on breast cancer. The American Board of Surgeons certifies her and she is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Breast Surgeons, Society of Surgical Oncology, and Association of Women Surgeons. Before joining Summit Medical Group, Dr. Polen was an active duty U.S. Naval officer and general surgeon for the Great Lakes Naval Medical Center and North Chicago Veterans Affairs Hospital in Great Lakes, Illinois. She also was Director of the Great Lakes Naval Breast Care Center.

Carol Boyer, RN, MSN, APN-C, CBPPN-IC, AOCNS, is Clinical Program Manager and a certified breast nurse patient navigator for the Summit Medical Group Breast Nurse Navigation Program. An oncology and board-certified gerontology clinical nurse specialist, Ms. Boyer has more than 25 years' experience in clinical nursing practice. She specializes in home care, hospice, oncology, and geriatrics.

Ms. Boyer is Founder of the Summit Medical Group Breast Nurse Navigation Program. She is Vice President of the Township of Berkeley Heights Board of Health. Ms. Boyer is the recipient of the Academy of Oncology Nurse Navigators Breast Cancer Nurse Navigator of the Year Award.
