Greenville, NC (PRWEB) December 03, 2012
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program is to collect new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages during the months of October, November, and December every year. The new toys are then distributed as Christmas gifts to the less fortunate children of the community where the donations are collected.
The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver a message to underprivileged children through a new toy at Christmastime that not only gives them hope, but communicates that by becoming productive, patriotic citizens, their futures can be more promising.
The Toys for Tots program is here to help less fortunate children all throughout the United States, so they too can enjoy Christmas, and to play an active role in the emotional and educational development of our nation’s most valuable assets – our beloved children. The program also aims to unite all members of the local communities, both young and old in one common cause each holiday season in the annual toy collection and distribution campaign, and to set an example that contributing to less fortunate children improves their futures and the unity of our communities as a whole.
There are local campaigns conducted in more than 700 communities each year in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Community members can drop off new, unwrapped toys in collection boxes located in local businesses. The coordinators then pick up these toys and store them at a local warehouse where they are sorted according to age and gender. At Christmas, social welfare agencies, coordinators, church groups, and other community agencies then distribute these toys to the less fortunate children in each community.
Although the Toys for Tots coordinators organize and manage the campaign, the true success of the Toys for Tots program depends entirely on the support from the local businesses and the community, and the great generosity from the kind people that donate these new, unwrapped toys.
