Small Businesses Can Use GXS SaaS Applications to Standardize Shipment Tracking Processes across the Global Supply Chain

(Odette 2012 Conference) (PRWEB) December 04, 2012 -- GXS, a leading provider of B2B integration services, today announced support for the Global Transport Label (GTL) standard through its Trading Grid Platform. Customers of GXS’s Active Applications suite can now easily create globally accepted labels for automotive OEMs and parts suppliers in their value chain. Using auto-identification technologies, such as barcode labels, enable businesses to increase the automation of their logistical processes and velocity of materials movement through the supply chain. GXS’s products also support the VDA 4902 standard used to streamline global shipment labeling requirements.

The GTL standard was introduced to rationalize the significant number of different labels in use across today’s global automotive industry and minimize the resulting shipment errors. The GTL standard embraces a number of features including 2D barcode technology and ISO ‘License Plate’, which uniquely identifies a transport unit by a combination of company ID, issuing agency and serial number.

“The automotive industry has gone through an unprecedented amount of globalization over the past decade. It is important to the industry that a standard is in place to track the shipments as they are transported across global supply chains,” said Mark Morley, automotive industry marketing director at GXS. “GXS’s GTL standard support improves automotive companies’ global supply chain visibility while significantly reducing the complexity of the labeling standards used in different regions around the world. GXS offers companies of all sizes access to the standard to help further its use.”

The GTL standard was developed by Odette International in conjunction with the US Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG), the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) and the Japan Auto Parts Industries Association (JAPIA) which together represent over 80% of the worldwide automotive production.
