Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) December 05, 2012

Today, the online, Emmy-nominated interactive talk show on YouTube, What’s Trending, announced it has teamed up with Virgin Mobile to present the first annual TUBE-A-TWEET-A-THON HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR. The event will be the first ever livestreamed variety show, with all donations benefitting the Covenant House, a non-profit organization with shelters around the country serving homeless youth. The Covenant House has shelters in 22 cities throughout the United States, Canada and Latin America, including homes in New Jersey and New York that were recently decimated by Hurricane Sandy.

Airing on December 13th on YouTube.com/WhatsTrending at 6 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. ET, THE TUBE-A-TWEET-A-THON HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR will bring together a collection of celebrities, musicians and the world’s biggest stars on YouTube reaching every corner of the online community and a combined audience of tens of millions for a night of comedy acts, musical performances and goodwill, and igniting a charity Tweetup using the hashtag #Tubeathon. Donations can be made via Twitter or online at http://www.virginmobilelive.com/donate. For every tweet using the #Tubeathon hashtag, Virgin Mobile will also donate $1 to Covenant House up to $50,000, making this a live holiday experience unlike any other and a variety show truly for the digital age.

Performers and appearances include a mix of celebs and comedians like Kevin Pollak, Heather McDonald, Josh Malina, Doug Benson, YouTube stars iJustine, the cast of Annoying Orange, Shay Carl, My Drunk Kitchen's Hannah Hart and Daily Grace as well as musicians Pentatonix, The Gregory Brothers and American Idol's Pia Toscano, and many others to be announced. New York bands will be playing remotely from Virgin Mobile Live’s studio in downtown Manhattan.

”This event combines those classic 1960s old school variety shows with the digital smartphone culture of today to host something special for people in need, including those crippled by Hurricane Sandy,” said Ron Faris, Head of Brand Marketing for Virgin Mobile USA. “It’s a nostalgic take on showcasing the hottest new bloggers, bands, and You Tube personalities curated by our friends at What’s Trending. With millions of fans tuning in, we hope to help get Covenant House some much-needed support for its work around the country and back on its feet in New York and New Jersey. And as always we’ll do it in our unique Virgin way. ”

"We are so excited to be partnering with a visionary company like Virgin Mobile to produce such a truly unique multi-platform experience," said Damon Berger, CEO of What's Trending. "The TUBE-A-TWEET-A-THON HOLIDAY SPECTACTULAR will give the telethons we loved from the analog generation an interactive upgrade that allows audiences to engage with a holiday variety show live across connected platforms and mobile devices while supporting a great cause."
