Boulder Crest Retreat, a 37- acre privately-funded Loudoun County facility being built to provide accommodations and recreational therapeutic services aimed at helping wounded warriors and their families relax and reconnect, has just received a $100,000 donation from PAE of Arlington, Virginia. This donation is made to support the development and naming of the retreat’s maintenance building.

Boulder Crest Retreat Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by retired U.S. Navy EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) expert and successful local entrepreneur Ken Falke, has raised just over $5 million in private donations to build cabins, a meeting house, a maintenance building, roads, a pond and other facilities to provide a get-away for troops who have suffered permanent injuries and loss of limbs in combat. The Boulder Crest Retreat is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, on private land donated by Falke and his wife, to provide a respite from the stress of clinical hospital environments and rehabilitation treatments these wounded warriors live in on a daily basis. Once construction is completed, troops and their immediate families will be invited to spend one to two weeks in this beautiful country setting at no cost.

“I am humbled by PAE’s commitment to the Boulder Crest Retreat,” said Falke. “In addition to the cash contribution, PAE will be a partner on this project for volunteering efforts and also a big help with our annual equipment maintenance on our HVAC and generator systems.”

“We were incredibly moved by Ken’s vision for the Retreat and his passion for bringing this concept to life,” said Mike Dignam, CEO of PAE. “We applaud Ken’s leadership in supporting our nation’s wounded warriors and their families who have sacrificed so much. We are honored to be a part of creating this rural sanctuary, and are excited for its opening next year.”

Falke announced his intention for the project in October 2011, citing a $10 million capital budget goal. Nearly 350 supporters, donors, board members, county officials, friends and family of Falke gathered on May 18, 2012 on the Boulder Crest Retreat site to celebrate the project’s official groundbreaking. It is scheduled to open in June 2013.
