Both of my kids had a great time creating their holiday decorations and eating their goodies. We already have both ornaments on our tree and they will forever be special because they are handmade.

On Saturday, December 1, 2012 The Heirloom Market & Café played host to around 100 local children at their “Discover Christmas” event. As kids entered the room they were greeted with the soft tones of Christmas music. The six lightly decorated Christmas trees provided the sweet smells of winter pines and a preview of Santa’s chair in the distance.
As the kids chose what ceramic ornament they wanted, and the tools they needed to decorate the ornaments, their faces lit up. The walls echoed with the children’s laughter. The kids were given paint brushes, paint, and glitter to decorate their very own ornaments.
As they wrapped up their ornament decorating they were all given construction paper, stencils, glue, and more glitter to make their own custom Christmas cards. The cards were riddled with Christmas tree, gingerbread men, and wreath shapes.
When the kids were done putting the finishing touches on their Christmas cards, they were each given a gingerbread man cookie to decorate. Each kid got their own gingerbread cookie and were given frosting and little candies for eyes, a nose, and a smile. As they finished each creation their gingerbread men seemed to come to life before their very eyes.
Finally, when they finished the design of their gingerbread men, the Christmas card, and the Christmas ornament, they were each given a sack lunch. Each lunch had a sandwich, applesauce, an activity book, and crayons.
“All the kids and their parents loved the event. The parents were very involved with what was going on and willing to help out. It was just so nice to see the parents and the staff working together to ensure the kids had a good time,” said Tabitha Fullan, Heirloom Market employee.
Hannah Van Hyfte, mother of two, brought her kids in and had this to say about the event, “It’s so nice that a company takes the time to reach out to families and have fun activities like this for children. Both of my kids had a great time creating their holiday decorations and eating their goodies. We already have both ornaments on our tree and they will forever be special because they are handmade.”
Next weekend The Heirloom Market & Café will have another Christmas event called, “A Very Special Christmas.” This event will feature a visit from Santa Claus himself as well as live reindeer and a balloon show by Zany Janie.
