We wanted to take print advertising to a new level by showing how you can create interactivity and true engagement with a simple idea using print advertising and the web.

Del Monte Agency, a Minneapolis top advertising agency, announces the release of its advertisement in the Minneapolis/St Paul Business Journal. The advertisement is not your average print ad; it uses the traditional medium of print and mixes a 3D, interactive spin to generate higher volume of engagement with readers. The ad runs for 5 weeks the month of December.

“We wanted to take print advertising to a new level by showing how you can create interactivity and true engagement with a simple idea using print advertising and the web,” states Christian Del Monte, Chief Technologist of Del Monte Agency.

Why develop a non-traditional ad in print? The idea was developed amongst the creative team at the Agency with 3 main objectives:
1.    Create an ad that will be interactive and creative, unlike other print ads
2.    Create an ad that will clearly exhibit the Agency’s core values
3.    Create an ad that will be fun for the reader and for the Agency

“We began brainstorming ideas and came up with the idea to use a game as the ad. The idea truly reflected the core values of our Agency, one of which is having fun,” explains Kim Maxon, Social Media Strategist of Del Monte Agency. “We didn’t want to submit the traditional, boring print ad that you typically see in newspaper. This ad is fun for readers, yet challenges them to think outside the box and still delivers the key message that we want our audience to hear.”

The ad begins by challenging readers to complete a maze, relating the obstacles of the maze to similar obstacles businesses face in reaching their customers. Readers are instructed to “use your skills and find the quickest route to connect your company’s brand/product/service with your target audience”. The maze seems easy enough to complete, however the QR code included in the illustration allows readers to find the answer and learn more about the key message behind the ad.
