Expert Reviewers and Editors from CEAG's TV Buying Guides have written complete size list for plasma TVs over 42 inches. The sizes covered were 42 inch, 50 inch, and 60 inch. The Panasonic TC-P42UT50 topped the Best 42 inch Plasma list. Jack Burden did the review on this one. He said, “The TC-P42UT50 does have 1080p processing and continues with Panasonics Infinite Black panel which was used in the S30 series last year. Picture quality is not nearly as refined on this TV as on models with the Infinite 2 Black panel and above. Characteristics are very good dark shadow detail, average black levels, and well saturated color once the TV is calibrated. Access to the white balance controls is critical to this. Side angle viewing on this TV is flawless.” He also made sure to note the, “Viera Connect suite with streaming video from Netflix, Hulu and more and also has apps like Youtube and Pandora as well as sports, news and weather. The ST50 lacks the social network connectivity of the higher end models like MySpace TV and Ooyala features.”
Up next is the Best 50 inch Plasma. The TC-P50GT50 came out on the top of this size list. Reviewers called it “Panasonic's best for 2012, but without the “Ultra” filter on the VT50 series which is even better. This is a big step up from lower end plasmas from Panasonic due to the much better signal processing. Black levels are about 20% better than lesser models with the extra fine processing of the sub pixel controller which controls the sub pixels red, green, blue inside each individual pixel cell. The TV is also THX certified which is usually not a big deal but this year adds a lot of value through usable picture modes. ”
Lastly there is the Best 60 inch Plasma list, this one written by Robert Wiley. The Samsung PN60E550 edged its way to the top of the list. “This is an active 3D value piece from Samsung with an excellent array of features for the price. It does not get the full benefit of all of Samsung's Real Black Pro picture quality features, but the PN60E550 does have full 1080p resolution. The up-conversion processing from standard definition sources is not as crisp as it is with some of the better processing chip set TV on the market, but it's OK. Actually, the two things you sacrifice are the better blacks and louvered filter of the higher end lines. Aside from that, you get Samsung's excellent color, and smooth plasma presentation. We've awarded Samsung plasma panels best picture quality awards the last two years and this panel receives the benefit of all that technology at a lower price point.”
