If you don't currently do any physical activity, doing just a few minutes of physical activity a day can result in a notable increase in life expectancy.

West Palm Beach, FL: The Project for Natural Health Choices Inc. is recommending that individuals try doing simple physical activity for a longer life.
This was proven by new research conducted at the U.S. National Cancer Institute and published Nov. 6 in the journal PLoS Medicine. The ground breaking study was a compilation of results from six different previous studies that had in excess of 650,000 people in them. The team was able to calculate years added to life expectancy for people over 40 based on their physical activity level.
They concluded that even a small increase of physical activity such as 75 minutes of walking a week (just over 10 minutes a day) added an average of 1.8 years of life. For subjects that walked between 150-299 minutes a week the gain in life expectancy was 3.4 years. Finally, for the participants that walked up to 450 minutes a week, an additional 4.5 years of life was added. The researchers also noted that increases in life expectancy resulted whether the person was obese or had an average Body Mass Index (BMI).
According to investigator Steven Moore "If you don't currently do any physical activity, doing just a few minutes of physical activity a day can result in a notable increase in life expectancy." The Project for Natural Health Choices Inc.'s answer for those interested in expanding life expectancy is to start engaging in simple regular exercise such as walking, yoga, or pilates.
