Jonny Bowden, a.k.a “The Rouge Nutritionist” recommends cutting down on carbohydrate intake to lose weight in a recent article published by Dr. Bowden believes that starving is not the right way to lose weight.

Restricting carbohydrate intake also has other benefits more important than weight loss.

Jonny Bowden, also known as the “Rouge Nutritionist”, says that new studies show reducing carbohydrate intake works better for weight loss than calorie restriction.

Dr. Bowden, in his article published by, states that weight loss is driven by hormones, particularly insulin, the “fat-storage hormone”. The more insulin the body produces, the more fat gets stored. Carbohydrates increase insulin levels in the body.

Restricting carbohydrate intake also has other benefits more important than weight loss, says Dr. Bowden. According to Jonny Bowden, lowering carbohydrate intake may help AMPK activity in the body. AMPK or activated protein kinase is an enzyme that helps with important biological functions.

“It kicks into action all kinds of activities that are important for fat loss and for general health, such as fat burning, building more mitochondria (the energy burning structures in your cells), lowering insulin and increasing the breakdown of stored sugar (glycogen)” says Jonny Bowden.
