San Diego, CA (PRWEB) December 07, 2012
Sullivan Solar Power has announced the firm’s Chief Executive Officer, Daniel Sullivan, as a finalist of San Diego Business Journal’s 2012 Most Admired CEO Awards Thursday. For the sixth consecutive year, the San Diego Business Journal has recognized local industry leaders with this prestigious accolade. The evening’s special award reception was held to celebrate the executives who have taken the lead in driving their businesses and the local economy.
“I am honored for receiving this esteemed recognition,” said Daniel Sullivan, who was surrounded by his colleagues at Thursday evening’s reception, “Being amongst San Diego’s most admirable leaders in the room tonight and having been acknowledged in the same caliber has been extremely humbling.”
Inspired by the birth of his son, Daniel Sullivan started his local firm after seeing the potential that solar power presented to his hometown of San Diego. A master electrician by trade, Daniel set out to create a company that would make create a sustainable future by reducing the region’s consumption of imported fossil fuels.
Sullivan founded his company in 2004, working out of a garage with his beat up truck, a set of tools and only $2,500 in the bank as one of the first solar contracting firms native to the area. Sullivan Solar Power has organically grown to be one of the fastest growing companies in the nation today. The firm posted $17-million in revenue in 2011 and currently boasts a fleet of 43 trucks, more than 70 employees, with satellite offices in the Inland Empire and Orange County.
With his strong entrepreneurial leadership style, Sullivan has grown his business and increased its profitability in the most competitive market in the country. The city of San Diego is the solar capital of the nation, for both number of rooftops and installed solar capacity. Daniel Sullivan’s firm has been an influential part of the region’s growth, having installed more solar power systems in the San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) utility territory than any other local company, according to California Solar Initiative data.
When asked for his keys to success, Daniel Sullivan said, “Business leaders must have a competitive drive, originate new concepts and ideas that benefit the marketplace to achieve success and continue to grow.”
In 2011, Sullivan Solar Power launched an Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure team. Sullivan conceived the marriage of solar and electric cars as ‘peanut butter and jelly’ to a clean energy future. His forward thinking proved to be an advantageous business move. San Diego is leading the rest of the country in plug-in electric cars on the road. Sullivan Solar Power is one of the select firms participating in the EV Project, a Department of Energy funded program.
Sullivan’s innovative contributions to the community have not gone unnoticed. It has proven to be a good year for the young entrepreneur in 2012, where he was named a finalist for Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year, ranked by San Diego Metro Magazine as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Leaders, and most recently, recognized by the San Diego Daily Transcript as one of the region’s Top Influentials. His company has also basked in popularity; Sullivan Solar Power was named Small Business of the Year by the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce and has also been recognized as one of the Fastest Growing companies by San Diego Business Journal for its third time. The company prides itself as the only solar firm in California ranked in the top 50 fastest growing firms in the energy sector by Inc. Magazine for three consecutive years.
