Brookfield Managing Partner Tim Formuziewich discusses Brazilian economic opportunities at the November 29th Forum

Brookfield Brazil Managing Partner Tim Formuziewich headlined the Ivy Family Office Network Philadelphia Forum with a discussion on “Brazil: Overview and Opportunities.” The Forum was held on November 29th, at the Radnor Hotel in Wayne, Pa.

According to Mr. Formuziewich, “Since Brazil’s embrace of democracy in 1985, which led to a favorable investable environment and framework, the country has changed substantially. Today, Brazil has strong macroeconomic indicators with respect to gross domestic product (GDP) growth and a very manageable government debt level, and its economy is larger than all other South American economies combined as a result of heavy urbanization, vast natural resources, one of the world’s largest stock exchanges and much of the population at or near reaching their most productive years.

“While Brazil’s stock market has leading export/import-oriented firms, there is little access to domestic-oriented growth firms. As investors in Brazil since the 1890s, we are well-positioned to seek investments in these firms, which we believe will benefit from near- to mid-term growth trends, such as increasing per capita income and thus social mobility, expanding credit markets and declining rates, Brazil’s competitive advantage in agriculture, industry and real estate, and events that will showcase the country, such as the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.”

Mr. Formuziewich has more than 12 years of finance and investment experience, and has led a number of transactions across the real estate, infrastructure, agrilands, timberlands and financial services sectors in Brazil. In 2006, he led the initial public offering of Brookfield’s Brazilian homebuilding operation, the largest IPO in Brazil at the time. Brookfield is a global alternative asset manager offering clients a range of public and private investment products and services. With more than $150 billion in assets under management, Brookfield has over a 100-year history of owning and operating assets with a focus on property, renewable power, infrastructure and private equity.
