“Using the BuyVia app or website means that shoppers don’t have to choose between the physical and virtual shopping experience when they’re looking for the best products at the best value,” said Norman Fong, co-founder of BuyVia.
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) December 11, 2012
BuyVia, an app and website that provide the first all-in-one smart shopping experience across devices, today released results from its Holiday Mobile Shopping survey. The survey reveals that 40% of consumers will be “showrooming” this holiday shopping season – examining products in retail stores with apps, before making a decision to buy in store or online depending on where they get the best value. Results also found that 79% of consumers reported that they frequently shop in the same store both online and in person.
“Using the BuyVia app or website means that shoppers don’t have to choose between the physical and virtual shopping experience when they’re looking for the best products at the best value,” said Norman Fong, co-founder of BuyVia. “For the first time they can find the products they want whether they want to touch, test and buy in a store, or see the product in person before they leave and buy it elsewhere using their tablet, laptop or smartphone.”
2012 Holiday Shopping Break Down
The survey results found that 28% of respondents said they will be doing 25-50% of shopping online and one quarter of respondents said they will be doing 50-75% of shopping online. 48% of shoppers who planned to do their holiday shopping online will purchase via their laptop. Results revealed the main reasons consumers prefer to shop online are to save time, avoid stores and crowds and because there are better prices online versus in store.
The results indicate that 44% of consumers spent, on average, 30 minutes to an hour researching each product before they make a purchase. 41% of shoppers reported researching products prior to making a purchase on their laptop over any other device. The survey found that a surprising 81% of shoppers prefer to research products through mobile browsers versus smartphones and tablets apps.
“Given the behavioral shopping shift to scouring the web for reputable sellers, shopping and coupon sites, it’s no surprise that consumers are more inclined to research via their web browsers,” said Norman Fong, Co-Founder and CEO of BuyVia. “This may be an indication that fragmented or biased apps which only showcase a limited inventory based on partnerships or endorsements don’t provide the selection and prices the savvy consumer wants.”
