But what I have seen is that the couples who have nothing to begin with, actually do better than those who wait until everything is perfect before they get married.

Hellen Chen, marriage expert and matchmaker extraordinaire, successfully ran the first ever workshop in the country during this weekend that boldly tackled the very problem of why more and more men and women have given up on finding their perfect match.

The audience in attendance ranges from single young men and women to divorcees to an older crowd looking for partners.

One of the issues brought up was in the area of economics and how financial worries have made couples postponing marriages.

In fact, the million dollar question of "How do I know the person in front of me is Mr. Right or Ms Right?" often hinged on economic conditions of the other person.

Chen said, "There is this idea that everything -- including career and finance -- needs to be perfect before one starts a marriage. But what I have seen is that the couples who have nothing to begin with, actually do better than those who wait until everything is perfect before they get married."

In a recent interview on Fox TV show in Georgia, Chen also mentioned, "Dating for a long time can actually hurt a relationship. The result is usually break-ups, disappointments and the negative lesson that a relationship cannot last."

Chen advises couples to get married first and then work hard to date and indulge in romance with each other for the rest of their lives.

Chen, who is also a bestselling author, wrote about real-life stories of couples who have started with very little and yet improved their relationship tremendously and positively affecting their careers after marriage.

This book "the Matchmaker of the Century" was launched on Barnes and Noble in October and while debunking many marriage myths such as "romance ends where marriage begins," it struck a chord with readers and subsequently achieved #1 bestselling status in 6 categories: marriage, self-help, relationships, love and romance, self-improvement and parenting and family.

Chen plans on holding more workshops to help singles and married couples allay fears of economic concerns and to focus on how they could start a relationship that actually improves all aspects of their life - including finance and career.
