"The discount program makes health care more affordable for our residents,” Supervisor Rose Jacobs Gibson
Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (PRWEB) December 11, 2012
The providers of the Coast2Coast Rx card, a free prescription discount program that allows users to save significantly on thousands of prescription drugs as well as health care services, recognized today the anniversary of its program in San Mateo County. The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved and launched the program in December of 2009, resulting in a cumulative savings of more than $1,983,555 for residents using the card.
Because the program offers a three-pronged approach to helping consumers and the community, the dramatic savings are just one benefit—consumers have access to a more affordable health care option to manage their medical needs, and San Mateo County receives $1.25 for each prescription filled using the Coast2Coast Rx card for public programs, setting this discount card apart from the rest. By using the card to create revenue for public programs, residents are able to reinvest in their community while saving money on their prescription drug costs.
"The discount program makes health care more affordable for our residents,” said Supervisor Rose Jacobs Gibson. "With thousands of San Mateo County residents facing tremendous health care costs, it is imperative that the Coast2Coast Rx card be distributed throughout the County's libraries, community based organizations and healthcare institutions,'' she continued. "My staff has been diligently working to distribute these cards enabling thousands of our residents to receive the health care they deserve." The Supervisor noted that the card can be beneficial to helping consumers treat chronic illnesses caused by obesity, and helping distressed homeowners with financial burdens; two of her primary concerns.
Coast2Coast Rx, offered at no cost, provides significant discounts on thousands of brand name and generic prescription drugs. The card is available to everyone—the uninsured, underinsured, and those whose current health plans include high deductibles or exclude certain prescriptions. Given that there is no enrollment paperwork or enrollment requirements, individuals and families can save immediately by simply presenting the card when filling prescriptions at a chain or local pharmacy participating in the program. Through partner programs, cardholders can also save money on diabetes supplies and dental, vision, hearing lab and imaging services, as well certain veterinary care and pet prescriptions.
“To achieve our goals of improving health outcomes while saving consumers money and helping invest in communities, we have developed a card that is an accessible and comprehensive resource,” said Chief Marketing Officer Marty Dettelbach of Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., the company that provides the discount prescription card. “Given that anyone can use the card it can continue to have a positive impact on residents and San Mateo County at large.”
Coast2Coast Rx is currently working with public departments and local nonprofit agencies to increase awareness of the card’s benefits. Organizations and agencies providing social services to underserved populations are encouraged to use the Coast2Coast card as a money-saving resource. Consumers and organizations alike can stay updated on Coast2Coast Rx and other healthcare news by including Coast2Coast Rx in their social networks on Facebook and Twitter.
