By identifying potential risks and other key elements of a successful construction safety program, organizations will be able to follow OSHA construction standards.

Georgia Tech Professional Education will provide an Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry (OTI 510) course at the Georgia Tech-Savannah campus Jan. 14-18, 2013. OSHA construction standards help organizations identify potential risks and other key elements in order to establish successful construction safety programs.
Participants will learn how to develop safety protocols related to a variety of situations and the use of construction tools that include but are not limited to personal protective equipment, hand and power tools, welding, electrical work, scaffolding, cranes and rigging, demolition, and other hazardous machinery.
“An interactive hazards violation workshop will allow participants to learn about scenarios and issues that can arise in a construction setting,” says Myrtle I. Turner, director of the Georgia Institute of Technology OSHA Training Institute Education Center. “Participants can utilize this information to create a safer and secure work place by reducing costs and accidents.”
Georgia Tech instructors Pamela Fisher, Jim Howry, Thomas Dean, and Philip Greisen will be teaching the course. Fisher, partner and operations manager at PROSAFE Solutions Inc., is a past president of the Georgia Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers. Howry, research associate with the Georgia Institute of Technology Safety and Health Consultation Program, has years of experience including serving as a regional loss control manager for CableCom Inc. Greisen, senior safety consultant and safety product development manager for PROSAFE Solutions, Inc., provided safety training for Georgia Tech that assisted contractors during the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Dean has a diverse background in occupational safety and is a Certified Safety Professional. He has conducted work for various organizations including the Kennedy Space Center and the World Trade Center in New York.
This course can be used to obtain a Construction Safety and Health Certificate from Georgia Tech Professional Education, and is required for individuals that would like to become a trainer.
