Contest Rewards Students and Teachers in California, Florida, and British Columbia with Interactive Technology Packages

The three teachers, all of the students and their winning submissions have raised the bar in creativity and outside-the-box thinking. We are thrilled to equip these classrooms with innovative new technology that will serve their passion for learning.

eInstruction, a global education software and technology company, today announced the three grand-prize winners of its sixth annual Flip Your Classroom – eInstruction Classroom Makeover Contest. The winners, representing the top video submissions from more than 250 entries from across the United States and Canada (excluding Quebec), were selected by a guest judging panel and nearly 20,000 votes submitted by the general public on the contest website, http://flipyourclassroom.einstruction.com.

The complete eInstruction Classroom Makeover is valued at approximately $75,000, with the prize packages featuring cutting-edge instructional technology from eInstruction, Adaptive Curriculum, Fablevision, InFocus, and Starrmatica. Each of the three winning classrooms will be transformed into engaging, collaborative learning environments where instructors and students can interact with each other and quality lesson content to enhance comprehension and drive student achievement. In addition to the classroom technology, winners will receive a $500 cash prize for hosting a celebratory party for the entire school.

Grades K-5 Winner: Beth Zerkowski’s class from Annunciation Catholic School in Middleburg, FL. Their video, “Call Me Maybe” can be viewed at http://flipyourclassroom.einstruction.com/performances/1bwec1d3rb.

“I’m thrilled that we have won,” said Zerkowski. “It was wonderful to see the energy and excitement that the children and their families had. I want to thank all of our families who gave so much time and support.”

Grades 6-8 Winner: Jonathan Oates’ class from Weimar Hills Charter School in Auburn, CA. Their video, “IT STARTED WITH A CLICKER” can be viewed at http://flipyourclassroom.einstruction.com/performances/1bwaos6hay.

“Getting the news that we won is the best early Christmas present a teacher could ask for,” said Oates. “I want to say thank you to my talented students, supportive administration, families, and community for your hard work and support of this project. I also want to thank eInstruction for such a memorable experience for all of us and for the fantastic new technology.”

Grades 9-12 Winner: Denise Montgomery’s class from Dover Bay Secondary School in Nanaimo, BC, Canada. Their video, “Dover Bay Gangnam Style” can be viewed at http://flipyourclassroom.einstruction.com/performances/1bwd49czdv.

“This project has succeeded in inspiring students, teachers, parents, and the community to work together toward a common goal that was a marathon that lasted over 60 days,” said Montgomery. “With the win, now we can emphasize and apply the idea that if we work together, we can achieve almost anything.”

An elite judging panel, which helped determine the winners, was comprised of established education and technology industry professionals.

“Each and every video expressed ingenuity, resourcefulness, and a huge commitment to integrate technology into the classroom,” said judge Mario Armstrong, technology contributor to NBC’s TODAY Show. “Every contest participant, whether student or teacher, should be proud of their work. It was an honor to serve as a judge of such high-quality submissions.”

The sixth annual competition was open to all students and teachers at primary and secondary schools in the U.S. and Canada (excluding Quebec). Between September 10 and October 26, participants were invited to submit short, creative music videos demonstrating how they would use technology to enhance their learning experience in the classroom. Videos had to be submitted by teachers and placed in the appropriate grade level categories (K-5, 6-8, and 9-12).
