GetAbout.Me announces general availability of it’s popular web based software, into the Windows Store for use on Windows 8 PC’s and tablet devices - adding tools that allow near real-time sentiment analysis and listening capabilities for Twitter. In addition, offline versions of its popular web based info graphic generator are included - allowing visualisations of Facebook and Twitter activity.
Mark Bridgett, founder, commented “It’s exciting to be first out of the blocks with the initial wave of Windows 8 applications into the Windows Store. Being able to take what we’ve already created with the website and migrate it easily into a ‘Metro’ style application was too tempting to pass up. The most exciting thing for us is being able to offer sentiment analysis tools combined with social media listening functionality that really help democratise what is often a boutique or enterprise price tag industry”.
With the new software, users can quickly set up searches for specific terms, or listen to twitter mentions or hash tag conversations. In line with its website, launched in March 2012, the emphasis is on ease of use, rather than overwhelming configuration options, and an easy to follow YouTube video demonstrates the minimal steps needed to set everything up, requiring only the connecting of a users Facebook and Twitter accounts, and choosing what searches, hash tags or mentions to keep track of.
Mark continued “The power of the software is in its simplicity. It takes moments to start keeping track of Twitter conversations. This is amazingly useful for companies wanting to keep track of their brand, or others and for performing market research. We’ve created our own solution that analyses the content of tweets using algorithms to calculate the overall tone and feel. From then on we give it a score between three bands of overall sentiment - positive, neutral and negative. In our own testing we were analysing up to 120 thousand tweets per day for conversations about various TV shows and saw some really interesting, almost predictable trends in traffic, and sentiment. It’s exciting to find yourself using your own software, both inside and outside of work, for things you’re interested in”.
The initial release marks the beginning of a planned series of updates in the coming weeks and months, that will see more social networks being unlocked, as well as the ability to share analysed content with other applications on a users Windows 8 PC or tablet device. Functionality to export generated reports and save them locally, as well as to a users SkyDrive cloud storage account, for use elsewhere is also offered.
GetAbout.Me is now available in the Windows Store, and is offered free of charge. A limit on the number of Tweets processed per day, is placed on free accounts, but for business and enterprise customers over 1 million Tweets per day can be monitored and analysed.
