The Simmons Firm, a nationwide leader in mesothelioma and asbestos litigation, will be a Platinum Sponsor of the 9th Annual International Asbestos Awareness Conference. The conference, organized by the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), will be held March 22 to 24, 2013, in Washington, D.C. The event will bring together internationally known experts, asbestos victims and prevention advocates in one forum to promote asbestos awareness, education, treatment and collaboration. The firm is the largest cumulative supporter of the conference.

“The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization is extremely grateful to the Simmons Firm for being a 2013 Platinum Sponsor for our annual Asbestos Awareness Conference again,” said Linda Reinstein, mesothelioma widow and president of ADAO. “Simmons’ unwavering and generous support enables us to continue to promote awareness about the dangers of asbestos, advocate for a worldwide asbestos ban, and support the community of asbestos disease victims. Simmons is truly appreciated and respected throughout our ADAO community. Together, change is possible.”

The conference launches on Friday evening with a special gathering for patients and their families. On Saturday, over 30 renowned experts and asbestos victims will present the latest advancements in disease prevention, global advocacy, and treatment for mesothelioma and other asbestos-caused diseases. Conference sessions will focus on medical advancements, patient and caregiver needs, prevention of asbestos exposure and global asbestos ban advocacy.

Featured speakers include Dr. Richard Lemen, presenting on the role of government in preventing asbestos exposure; Dr. Arthur Frank, who will lead a session on diagnosing and treating asbestos-related diseases; and Sean Fitzgerald, president of the Scientific Analytical Institute, who will talk about environmental exposures from disasters such as Hurricane Sandy.

The day will end with an Awards and Recognition Dinner to honor advocates of asbestos victims. The final conference event on Sunday morning is the Unity and Remembrance Brunch in memory of those who have passed away from asbestos-related diseases.

“The Simmons Firm has a long-standing commitment to support individuals and families impacted by asbestos-related diseases in and out of the courtroom,” said Perry Browder, chair of the firm’s asbestos litigation group. “At Simmons, we have seen firsthand the devastation an asbestos-related disease can cause on patients and their families. Our continued support of ADAO and its annual conference is only one part of our own mission to support our clients and the mesothelioma and asbestos-related diseases community as much as possible.”

With this mission, the firm has pledged nearly $20 million to cancer research and has been a top cumulative donor to the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization, mesothelioma research and Miles for Meso 5K Races.
