Hidden Hearing recently held a Hearing Awareness Event at The Midland Hotel in Manchester. The reason for the day was to make the people of Manchester understand how important their hearing is and how it should be checked regularly and treated no differently to an eye test or trip to the dentist.

A survey conducted by Hidden Hearing revealed that in Manchester alone over a third of people asked said they switch off after a minute of their friends or partners talking on a regular basis.

With the key topics of moaning, the latest on soap stories and household responsibilities causing most people to “switch-off”, it’s no wonder that 35% of those asked in Manchester said they also find themselves pretending to listen and nodding along to discussions.

Is this all down to boredom and distraction or could it be that we are a nation suffering with undiagnosed hearing loss? It has been discovered that out of 10 million people who suffer with a hearing loss in the UK, 4 Million are undiagnosed cases who could benefit from a hearing aid.

Hearing Aid Manufacturers such as Starkey Laboratories, Oticon and Widex were on hand to demonstrate products and accessories. Peter Sydserff, who is one of Hidden Hearing’s top audiologists was also available throughout the day offering helpful advice and answering questions during a Q&A session.

Free hearing screenings were offered to anyone who wished to have one and many took this opportunity because a hearing loss could be detected in just a few minutes in a pain free, simple way. A large number of people who came also took advantage of the free wax removal that was also on offer.

Feedback was positive with visitors commenting on how informative and helpful the day was, as well as friendly and welcoming. The campaign is running throughout the country and is backed by T.V Doctor, Dr Hilary Jones.
