What Alorica is doing is a direct violation of the FLSA.
DALLAS (PRWEB) December 18, 2012
Baron and Budd a national law firm dedicated to protecting the rights of consumers, is working to make employees aware of alleged overtime wage violations at Alorica call centers across the nation. The law firm is working with various employees at Alorica call center locations in regards to how Alorica calculates wage deductions for employee breaks. The alleged wage violation issues could affect thousands of workers who may be owed hundreds of thousands in unpaid overtime back wages.
According to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), companies can only deduct from an employee’s wages when the employee takes a break longer than 20 minutes. However, Alorica allegedly required its employees to go “off the clock” for every single break the employee took, even short restroom breaks that took just a few minutes. By the end of the employee’s pay period, these small time deductions would add up, ultimately translating to significant decreases in wages.
“The worst part here is that many employees probably didn’t realize that they may have been cheated out of lawful pay by Alorica,” said attorney Allen Vaught, leader of Baron and Budd’s overtime wage violations section. “As attorneys dedicated to protecting workers, we are working with Alorica employees to sort out these potential violations.”
