I want readers to take a few simple phrases from God’s Holy Word,” Wynn says, “and a realization that even short prayers can give them the strength they need to act in a godly way.

Jeanette Wynn’s new novelScared Stiff” (published by CrossBooks) uses biblical wisdom and young characters to present a wholesome example of adolescents overcoming self-doubt through faith.

“Scared Stiff” is about Angie, who masters her stage fright with the help of Jesse. Jesse, who is accustomed to getting the leading role in the class play, uses her parents’ support, Sunday school and verses from the Bible to practice with Angie. This enables Angie to overcome her fear, and the two girls form a strong friendship.

An excerpt from “Scared Stiff”:

“Well, I am a Christian, Angie, but I haven’t been behaving like one. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. He died on the cross to save sinners like me. I have been jealous and haven’t been following my Savior’s commands, but I felt bad when I saw you run off the stage. I knew how you felt because of the time I made a fool of myself at my piano recital. I found you the day you forgot your lines at school because Jesus told me it was the right thing to do. And it was.”

“I want readers to take a few simple phrases from God’s Holy Word,” Wynn says, “and a realization that even short prayers can give them the strength they need to act in a godly way.”
